Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@elevatedveinsolutions.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Elevated Vein Solutions is a vascular diagnostic imaging company providing accurate and reliable ultrasound services to physicians to support the diagnosis, treatment, and management of a wide range of lower extremity conditions.

All diagnostic imaging performed by Elevated Vein Solutions (EVS) is overseen and interpreted by the contracted physician/facility and billed through the contracted physician/facility.

The contracted physician/facility manages all aspects of billing related to, but not limited to, consultations, diagnostic imaging, treatments, and follow up appointments. They are also responsible for handling all insurance billing and claims.

EVS can help diagnose a wide range of lower extremity medical conditions. Common conditions diagnosed; Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI), Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), Superficial Thrombophlebitis (SVT), Post-Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS), Varicose Veins, Lymphedema, Lipedema, Venous Ulcers, and Arterial Ulcers.

Swelling, Heaviness, Fatigue, Cramping, Pain, Aching, Tenderness, Tingling, Burning, Itching, Skin Changes, Discoloration, Redness, Dermatitis, Restless Legs.

Leg pain during activity, such as; cramping, aching, and fatigue- that improves with rest. Other symptoms can include; numbness, tingling, weakness, cold feet, slow-healing wounds, or skin that appears pale, bluish, or purplish (often worsening when the legs are elevated). You might notice shiny skin, hair loss, and, in more advanced stages, pain even while at rest.

Venous reflux, also known as chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), occurs when the valves in the leg veins do not function properly. This allows blood to flow backward and pool in the lower extremities, instead of efficiently returning to the heart.

Simply put:

  • Genetics- Family history of vein disease
  • Prolonged Standing/Sitting- Increased pressure in leg veins
  • Pregnancy & Hormonal Changes- Affect vein elasticity
  • Aging- Valves weaken over time
  • Obesity- More strain on veins

Yes. Most importantly, Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate! Eat a light meal prior to ultrasound. Refrain from caffeine, i.e., coffee, soda. Be active and on their feet for at least a couple of hours prior to US if possible (especially early morning ultrasounds).

In some rare cases, they may need to prepare for their diagnostic test by fasting.

Staff will provide you with specific instructions on how they need to prepare for the test.

During their ultrasound, an experienced sonographer will apply warm gel to their skin and use a transducer (a handheld device) to examine the blood flow in their legs. The ultrasound is non-invasive, painless, and typically takes 60 mins. For a venous evaluation, they will start by lying down on an exam table, then stand to evaluate the veins more thoroughly. For an arterial evaluation, they will be lying down for the entire exam.

We have two vein systems:

  • Deep Veins- Located deep in the leg. These veins carry 90% of the blood back to your heart. You can not remove these veins.
  • Superficial Veins- Located closer to the surface of the leg. These veins carry the remaining 10% of the blood back to your heart. You can treat and/or remove these veins.

That's an excellent question! While the great saphenous vein is sometimes used for heart bypass surgery (CABG), if it is diseased or not functioning properly, it likely wouldn't be usable for a bypass surgery anyway. There are several other veins and arteries that can be used for (CABG), such as the internal mammary artery, radial artery, small saphenous vein, and other veins in the arms and legs.

Most insurance plans will cover ultrasounds for chronic venous insufficiency, lower extremity venous disease, and peripheral arterial disease if it is deemed medically necessary. For details specific to their coverage, we recommend you contacting their insurance provider directly.

Absolutely!

While vein procedures address the root cause of the problem, there are conservative options that can help manage their symptoms and slow progression. These include:

  • Compression stockings
  • Leg Elevation
  • Exercise
  • Weight Management
  • Avoiding prolonged standing and/or sitting

These options help manage symptoms and can relieve discomfort, but they do not correct the underlying vein issue. If their symptoms worsen or affect their quality of life, treatment can always be reconsidered in the future.
